SAS Dissertation Completion Fellowship (DCF)
The SAS Dissertation Completion Fellowship (DCF), awarded annually, supports a final year of dissertation writing for Ph.D. students in the sixth year and, in rare cases, above the sixth year. The fellowship consists of a standard 10-month stipend at the university minimum, tuition, fees, and health insurance.
The Dissertation Completion Fellowship is intended for students who will complete the dissertation during the fellowship year. Recipients of the fellowship are generally ineligible for future fellowship aid from SAS. Completion during the fellowship year remains the expected standard of the DCF.
In the spring semester, the English Department is asked to nominate a small number of students for consideration in the DCF competition. The Graduate Office holds an internal competition to determine its nominees. Eligible graduate students will be asked to submit application materials by a designated date if they are interested in the fellowship.
Final DCF awards will be made on the basis of academic excellence, as evaluated by members of the SAS Committee on Graduate Education. Evaluators will use as one indicator of excellence the ability of the candidate to progress through their Ph.D. programs in a timely fashion, with due regard for unusual programs of study that may require a longer period of preparation or research.
