Jo Ellen Parker, PhD, is the former president and CEO of Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh (2014-2018). Most recently, she was the senior vice president of the Council of Independent Colleges, and currently is an independent consultant offering workshops on governance and fundraising for very small and under resourced local non-profits. She also provides executive and leadership coaching with a focus on leadership. Before coming to Pittsburgh to lead the Carnegie Museums, she was president of Sweet Briar College from 2009 to 2014, and prior to that was executive director of the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education and president of the Great Lakes Colleges Association. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College, her master’s from the University of Kansas, and her doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. She has served on numerous local community boards and is a resident of Point Breeze.
