Nancy R. Wicker

Professor at academy

A memorial service for Nancy R. Wicker, associate professor of English at the Navel Academy, will be held at noon Tuesday at the academy's chapel in Annapolis.

Dr. Wicker, who was 36 and lived in Annapolis, died July 23 of cancer at a hospital in Philadelphia.

She joined the Navel Academy faculty in 1980 after teaching for three years at the University of New Orleans.  Associate chairman of the English Department, she was active in the development of the academy's honors progam in the humanities.

She taught courses in Romantic and Victorian literature, poetry and writing, and was co-author of a textbook on writing.

She was a member of the Mayor's Commemorative Committee in Annapolis.

Born in Philadelphia, she was a graduate of the University of Michigan and earned her master's degree and doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania.

She is survived by her mother, Lillian R. Wicker, of Philadelphia, and a sister, Ellen Wicker, of New Orleans.
